Protection Against Solid Particles (First Digit)
The first digit of the IP rating system evaluates the level of protection against solid particles, including dust and other foreign objects. It ranges from 0 to 6, with each digit denoting a different degree of protection:

| IP1X | Protection against solid objects larger than 50mm in diameter. |
| IP2X | Protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm in diameter. |

Protection Against Liquids (Second Digit)

| IPX1 | Protection against vertically falling water drops. |
| IPX2 | Protection against water drops at an angle of up to 15 degrees from vertical. |
| IPX3 | Protection against spraying water at an angle of up to 60 degrees from vertical. |
| IPX4 | Protection against water splashes from any direction. |
| IPX5 | Protection against low-pressure water jets from any direction. |
| IPX6 | Protection against high-pressure water jets from any direction. |
| IPX7 | Protection against immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. |
| IPX8 | Protection against continuous immersion in water beyond 1 meter depth |
